Our Leather
Meet the family.
At Scottish Leather Group we’re a family-owned family of businesses. Each business in the group is unique, yet we’re all driven by the same values – to make it personal, stay committed to quality, and continue to be naturally progressive.
Introducing Bridge of Weir, Muirhead and Lang. Three historic businesses. Three distinct personalities. Together we’re closing the loop on leather so we can look after our customers from sustainably sourced hides to game-changing product, with the world’s lowest carbon leather.
Bridge of Weir Fine Automotive Leather
Our leathers have helped shape the course of automotive history. Founded by Arthur Muirhead in 1905, Bridge of Weir leather is synonymous with comfort and timeless quality. On the prestige marques of today and the concept cars of tomorrow, we develop the finest automotive leathers at one of Europe’s leading leather production facilities.
With the softest water in the world on our doorstep, a temperate climate and the finest cattle breeds, it’s no surprise Bridge of Weir leather is soft, durable and naturally timeless. It's the natural, sustainable choice for automotive interiors. From the Ford Model T to the DeLorean DMC-12, Aston Martin V8 Vantage to the McLaren F1 - our fine automotive leathers have been defining car interiors in terms of sporting performance and luxurious quality.
Forever inspired by our heritage. Driven by design.
Lang Tanning Specialist
Generations of craftsmen built our tannery. New technology drives it further than ever before. At Lang, we’ve got over 150 years of tanning experience producing the finest Scottish leathers and specialise in lime split and full substance bovine Wet Blue and Wet White hides.
With our tannery in Scotland, we’re known for the quality of our leather. It naturally starts with the raw materials we choose to work with. We source our hides sustainably - we procure over 98% of our raw hides from the UK and Ireland - from suppliers that respect and observe the highest animal welfare standards.
We are firmly at the forefront of pioneering tanning methods that reduce our environmental footprint. As well as recycling and reusing our precious Scottish water, over 50% of our tanning production is organic. As a modern tanner we are always striving to innovate and develop new bio-based and sustainable tanning processes to further cement our environmental ethos.
We are firmly at the forefront of pioneering tanning methods, and in 2023, we launched our cutting-edge Super Tannery, reducing our energy use by 82% and a 42% decrease in water consumption. We continue to prioritise sustainability by recycling and reusing Scottish water, with over 50% of our tanning production now organic. As a modern tanner, we are always exploring new bio-based and other low impact tanning processes, reinforcing our commitment to reducing our environmental impact.
Muirhead Fine Scottish Leather
When it comes to low carbon, high performance leather, Muirhead is in it for the long haul. Born in 1840, we’re proud to be the market leader for the global aviation industry.
Our leathers are made to travel the world - on 160 airlines, on buses, coaches, and railways, and in the marine and furniture industries. You’ll find custom leather in leading restaurants and government buildings, in hotels as well as private commissions.
A family business that's nearly two centuries in the making has to be at the forefront of technology. Muirhead developed the world’s only full substance leather with a significant weight reduction over traditional leather so we’re the natural solution for leading airlines. Then we took it one step further with our ActiveHygiene Leather to address the challenges presented by COVID-19.
A family business that has nearly two centuries of experience has to be sustainable. Our commitment to lowest carbon leather and an onsite tannery means we’re in full control of the process - and the quality.
When it comes to our leathers, there’s simply nothing quite like them.
